How to Edit a Mp3 File

Steps

  1. First, download your choice of audio editor, Audacity is easy to work with (it's used in many high schools) and has a variety of compatibility options
  2. Import the MP3 file. Usually you can do this by going to the top of the screen and clicking the File menu. There will usually be an import selection, or sometimes you could even just open the file.
  3. After the import completes, you will usually see the file's raw data. This is called the waveform. It will display the relation between the volume of the track and the time it's located in. You can zoom in for a more accurate reading.
  4. For most programs, you will be able to cut music and move it, actually edit the music's data, import music into the existing song, add effects, and more.
  5. After your edit, you can export the file.
